Could longtime TV presenter Tony Jones be heading for a plum radio gig?
There’s talk in media circles that the Channel 9 sport presenter and Sunday Footy Show host would be top of the list to front the 3AW drive program should there be a shake-up at the station.
Mornings king Neil Mitchell is in discussions about his future next year and should he not continue it’s understood Tom Elliott will be his successor.
That would leave a vacant seat in drive and, given the slot’s timing, it may mean Jones has to give up his TV news role which he has held for more than 30 years.
A strong newsman, Jones often fills in when Mitchell is on leave and is versatile enough to have also filled the void previously in drive. Those in the know say the job would be his if he wants it.

Brown bites back
Nathan Brown says “the war is over” after he was accused of stealing segment ideas by Craig Hutchison.
Last week the SEN owner teed off on his program, Off The Bench, about “nicking our content”.
Brown used one of the segments he was accused of ripping off, Media-Ocre, on the Sunday Footy Show, to hit back. He responded by finding old clips of Hutchison as host of the Sunday Footy Show throwing to What Caught My Eye.
“What Caught My Eye has been around for a long time and he said we stole What Caught My Eye,’’ Brown said. “Craig was hosting, that goes back to 2014.”
Brown, who was accused of not having an original thought, threw in an extra jibe by calling Hutchison a “boutique radio station owner”.
Brown said: “We have some nasty writers upstairs.”
He then tried to calm the situation, saying the war is over now. We’re not so sure.
Jezza at the ’G
Great to see footy legend Alex Jesaulenko cheering on the Blues at the MCG on Saturday night.
Jezza, who is battling Parkinsons disease, was at the match against Melbourne with daughter Kate, her partner Trent Croad and his former Blues teammate Alex Marcou.
The former Carlton high-flyer, 77, was in good spirits. He was last seen in public in June when he stepped out to celebrate Kate’s birthday.
Dyson not black and white
Collingwood’s attempt to convert another big name hasn’t quite materialised.
The club posted a picture of basketball sensation Dyson Daniels with forward Jack Ginnivan.
The caption read: “And just like that, we’ve converted @dysondaniels from a Tiger to a Magpie. Sorry @richmond—fc.”
Despite lapping up the post-game celebrations in the Magpies’ rooms, Daniels responded that his loyalties still remained at Punt Road.
“Love Ginni Still a tiger,’’ he wrote.
Food thief
James Brayshaw was left irate and starving after his colleague Luke Darcy ate his meal before the footy on Friday night.
“Disrespectful and disgraceful,’’ Brayshaw fumed on Triple M’s Saturday Rub.
“I pile into the Channel 7 commentary area ... I have to get changed quickly and then go straight into recording promos. I don’t eat during the day so that’s my only meal ... and he stole one of the boxes for the commentators, which was mine.
“It’s the most disgraceful behaviour I’ve ever heard of.”
Brayshaw stormed into the Triple M commentary box seeking answers but Darcy showed little remorse, preferring to focus on his good fortune in landing a tasty meal.
