Melbourne is going to be celebrity central over the coming months with an extraordinary roll call of star performers set to thrill the city.
Confirmation that AC/DC will play the MCG on November 12 has highlighted the incredible calendar of international hit makers including Lady Gaga, Oasis, Metallica and Ricky Martin headlining in Melbourne between July and December.
It is a road of gold records and hit songs that lead to Melbourne.
“The reason we see everyone down here in summer (or late spring) is the bigger the artist the less they are likely to see winter,” music commentator and Noise11.com publisher, Paul Cashmere said.
“They spend their summers in the northern hemisphere touring and then they spend their summers in the southern hemisphere touring. That is the basic reason why summer fills up every time.
“When you have the older artists coming through, the fact is the older the artists the more the expectation is that this is the last time you are going to see them, which means there is more incentive to get a ticket to see them.
“Once artists reach a certain age fans think, ‘if I don’t see them now I’ll never see them again’, ‘I’ve never seen them before so this is the one and only time I am going to get to see them,’ or ‘I have seen them a lot over the years and it is nostalgia for me to go to the show’.”
Katy Perry launched the six months of Melbourne bound stars with four sold out concerts at Rod Laver Arena earlier this month.
K-pop singer and rapper G Dragon, known as the king of K-Pop, has two concerts locked in at Rod Laver Arena on July 6 and 7.
Tyler The Creator will play Rod Laver Arena over four nights from August 20, 22, 23 and 24.
Australian country rock superstar, Keith Urban, returns to Melbourne for two Rod Laver shows on August 25 and 26.
Meanwhile, August also sees US singer Camila Cabello land at Margaret Court Arena on August 27.
US singer and recent coach on The Voice Australia, LeAnn Rimes, will entertain at John Cain Arena on September 16, while fan favourite Anastasia has a show booked at The Forum on September 24.
Synth-pop hit maker Midge Ure plays at The Palais on October 17.
The mega names start arriving en masse as of late October, kicking off with the legendary diva Mariah Carey.
Carey will headline Fridayz Live at Marvel Stadium on October 25, topping a line up that also includes Pitbull.
Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas plays The Forum over three nights on October 29, 30 and 31.
Iconic British superstars Oasis hit Melbourne for three massive shows at Marvel Stadium on October 31 and November 1 and 4.
Overlapping with Oasis, Ricky Martin will be in Melbourne performing at Rod Laver Arena on November 1 and 2.
Legendary heavy metal band Metallica will rock Marvel Stadium for one night only on November 8.
At the other end of the music scale, gentle evergreen UK star Cliff Richard will entertain fans at The Palais on November 6 and 7.
US singer Addison Rae has two shows, November 11 and 12, locked in for The Forum, while
Usher brings his smooth grooves to Rod Laver Arena on November 19, 20, 22, 23, 25 and 26. Rock’s most stylish performer Lenny Kravitz plays John Cain Arena on November 25.
Kendrick Lamar has a date at AAMI Park on December 3 while the force of nature that is Lady Gaga will bring the house down at Marvel Stadium on December 5 and 6.
