It is a road of gold records and hit songs that lead to Melbourne.

“The reason we see everyone down here in summer (or late spring) is the bigger the artist the less they are likely to see winter,” music commentator and Noise11.com publisher, Paul Cashmere said.

“They spend their summers in the northern hemisphere touring and then they spend their summers in the southern hemisphere touring. That is the basic reason why summer fills up every time.

“When you have the older artists coming through, the fact is the older the artists the more the expectation is that this is the last time you are going to see them, which means there is more incentive to get a ticket to see them.

“Once artists reach a certain age fans think, ‘if I don’t see them now I’ll never see them again’, ‘I’ve never seen them before so this is the one and only time I am going to get to see them,’ or ‘I have seen them a lot over the years and it is nostalgia for me to go to the show’.”
