It’s not just Australia’s Little Monsters going gaga for Lady Gaga.
The US popster and fashion icon has just danced to the top of event organisers wish list, namely as the potential star guest of the annual NGV Gala.
The National Gallery of Victoria each year holds an epic celebration to launch its summer exhibition.
Always held at the beginning of December, the event has been coined Melbourne’s version of the Met Gala, with a red carpet of ball gowns and custom couture from it’s equally carefully curated roll call of A-lister guests.
The event falls around the same time as Lady Gaga’s stadium blockbuster Mayhem Ball which will tour Down Under this summer.
And with this year’s NGV summer exhibition tipped to be a top fashion designer a la past smash hit from Alexander McQueen and Chanel, who better to lead the parade than Gaga herself.
Her much-anticipated tour promoted by Live Nation will open the Australian run at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on December 5, before heading to Brisbane and finishing in Sydney on December 12.
It has been 11 years since Lady Gaga’s much adored loyal fans, dubbed Little Monsters, have seen their queen perform in Australia. The last time she graced the Aussie stages was for her Art Rave: The ARTPOP Ball tour.
But with huge demand to see her at big event gigs, she will soon headline the Coachella festival and then in Singapore, Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, she has forged ahead booking more arena concerts in North America, Europe, the UK and now the big stadium shows in Australia.
She will soon be set to appear at the Met Gala in May as a guest of Vogue editor-at-large Anna Wintour. Lady Gaga was famously co-chair of the event under it’s camp theme banner back in 2019 making a grand entrance in not one but three outfits in a transformative red carpet performance that still tops many’s best dressed Met Gala lists. We can only hope Melbourne will see something of the same in December. Applause!
