Hollywood A-listers Toni Collette and Joel Edgerton were gushing about their inspiring trips to Melbourne.
The Australian actors were two of the star guests at the NGV Gala on Saturday night in celebration of artist Yayoi Kusama.
“I saw this exhibition at Tate Modern and didn’t want to leave,’’ Collette said.
“Here celebrating a female artist and that’s a wonderful thing. You get dressed up and have inspiring conversations. I’m living life as a creative so the hope is I’m doing it in that way.”
Collette, wearing head to toe Zimmermann, was happy to chat and mingle despite her minder saying she wasn’t doing interviews.
Edgerton, with wife and Vogue Australia editor-in-chief Christine Centenera, caught up with his Wish You Were Here co-star and fellow Aussie actor Teresa Palmer on the pink carpet.
“I don’t get invited to many places and I’ve never been to a Met Gala so I’m really excited to be in Melbourne,’’ Edgerton said.
“I used to live and work in Melbourne; my family were in Sydney and I did harbour a desire to move. I really love it here.
“I’m hanging out in Sydney now and I’m being a daddy and taking a bit of time out.”
Edgerton has a new movie that will premiere at Sundance called Train Dreams.
Philanthropist, art advocate and Melbourne Fashion Festival director Kallie Blauhorn stunned in a couture first by designer Christian Kimber.
Kimber meticulously crafted the dusty blue with caramel brown pinstripe gown over three months in collaboration with Blauhorn, drawing inspiration from the precision of the classic European men’s tailoring, the glamour of old Hollywood and the resurgence of 90s style tailoring in contemporary womenswear.
“This gown represents a leap forward in the evolution of my brand,’’ Kimber said. “A reflection of my personal design philosophy and a celebration of the bespoke approach we champion.”
Elsewhere a raft of stunning models turned heads including Charlee Fraser, Hanan Ibrahim, Akosia, Shanina Shaik and Montana Cox.
The Inspired Unemployed, Jack Steele and Matt Ford, and their partners Sarah Ellen and Eden Kannourakis, were popular guests.
Why Bec and Nadia weren’t at Melbourne’s night of nights
Meanwhile Melbourne’s other A-listers Bec Judd, Nadia Bartel, Lana Wilkinson, Sarah Lucas, Jessie Roberts and more were all at new Malvern hotspot Gardiner Hotel celebrating the birthday of their good friend, Nova radio host Jack Charles.
Judd posted she had three parties on Saturday, the first was at Maison Batard in the city and then she was at Dom Dolla at Flemington Racecourse.
