AC/DC is ready to “create iconic moments and music history” at the MCG in November.

The legendary rockers, helmed by guitar hero Angus Young and lead singer Brian Johnson, have confirmed Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane dates in November and December.

AC/DC will perform at the MCG, as part of their Power Up world tour, on November 12.

“AC/DC and their crew know and love the MCG,” AC/DC’s Australian tour promoter Christo Van Egmond, of TEG Van Egmond, told the Herald Sun.

“The band knows the MCG is a very special place. AC/DC at the MCG will create iconic moments and music history. AC/DC at the MCG is a natural fit.”

Mr Van Egmond said he had tried to stage AC/DC at the East Melbourne colosseum on past tours.

“It worked out this time, and everyone on the tour is really excited about it, he said.

“It’s become the stadium of choice for many acts. It’s an iconic venue. It makes sense to have an iconic band playing there.”

However, while the MCG is a lock, the band has not yet been sounded out about a City of Melbourne plan to pay tribute to AC/DC’s legendary music video for It’s A Long Way To The Top.

Melbourne Lord Mayor Nick Reece is planning events to honour the video, which was shot in 1976 on a flat-bed truck, as AC/DC rolled down Swanston St.

The council hopes AC/DC might get involved in recreating the moment.

“It’s a unique concept,” Mr Van Egmond.

“It would be very special, but it’s up to the up to the band.”

He said AC/DC had not been asked to consider the City of Melbourne pitch.

“It’s too early,” he said. “They’ve got a bit on at the moment.”

The new tour includes rock anthems Hells Bell, Back In Black, Highway To Hell, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, and You Shook Me All Night Long.

Mr Van Egmond saw four Power Trip shows in Europe while negotiating Australian tour dates.

“The band is absolutely on fire at the moment,” he said.

“Angus and Brian, in particular; their engagement with the crowd is direct, and constant. You feel like you’re part of the show.

He added: “The tour production has been modernised while keeping some of the key pieces and sets we all know and love. It’s an incredible sound and light show complimented by some of the greatest rock songs of all time.”

The band will also perform in Sydney on November 21, Adelaide on November 30, Perth on December 4, and Brisbane on December 14.

Formed in Australia in 1973, AC/DC has sold 200 million albums worldwide, including 50 million copies of their 1980 opus, Back In Black.

The band line up on the Power Up tour is Young, Johnson, rhythm guitarist Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug, and bass player Chris Chaney.

Melbourne punk rock act Amyl and the Sniffers will play support slots on the Australian dates.
