Time On is your Monday wrap-up of all the footy gossip and banter from the weekend.
Nathan Brown is staying quiet about who it was that confronted him in the Triple M commentary box last weekend over his watchdog segment, Media-Ocre, on the Sunday Footy Show.
Time On asked and had no luck, and Tony Jones quizzed him about it on Sunday but he was still refusing to divulge a name.
He said on Triple M: “You’ve got to take it for what it is, it’s tongue in cheek.
“Somebody came into the Triple M box on Sunday and may have questioned why I would put him, or her, in Media-Ocre.
“We’re all in the media, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes you just like to pick on those mistakes like we do in the Triple M box. Now I don’t think other stations and media outlets enjoy the mistakes as much as we do. Unfortunately it’s the first one that’s cut up rough.”
Brown back in Footy Show hot seat
Speaking of Brown, he has won the race again to host the Sunday Footy Show while Tony Jones heads off to cover Wimbledon.
Last year Brown did an excellent job filling in and gladly handed back the reins to Jones who he said was the glue that brings their banter together.
The only other real contender for the host’s seat was Kane Cornes, who ruled himself out last week.
Brown said: “It’s a fun gig, I’m looking forward to it.”
He said he will take Jones to the airport again on Wednesday “just to make sure … we get you on that plane”.
The panel is looking forward to Jones once again donning the white bucket hat which he displayed courtside last year.
Brown started a petition to keep Jones at Wimbledon in 2022, but that wasn’t met with the laughs it was intended and no one went near that topic again.
Healy a hard no for 60th
The clash of the 60th birthdays has got much of the footy world talking.
Ricky Nixon is having his bash on July 8 a week before Warwick Capper after the pair clashed over having a joint party.
During the Swans’ demolition of the Eagles on Saturday talk in the Fox Footy commentary box turned to the legendary Swans larrikin when Leigh Montagna asked Gerard Healy if he was attending Capper’s celebration.
There was a slight pause before Healy said “no”. Perhaps he’ll give it consideration should an invite come his way.
Never hit a giant in glasses
Anthony Hudson, Nathan Buckley and Garry Lyon were a great trio in the commentary box on Sunday at the MCG.
The game that saved a bland weekend, the thriller between Collingwood and Adelaide, had them on their edge of their seats as Huddo’s top commentary was complimented by Buckley and Lyon’s enthusiasm for the game.
During the tense final quarter when Pies ruckman Mason Cox bagged the first of his two goals, his protective glasses were ripped off by Adelaide’s Ben Keays in a scuffle.
Buckley observed: “Never hit a guy with glasses, was that something you learnt as a kid.”
