Some of Australia’s best comedians have banded together to support Victorian farmers battling harsh and cruel drought conditions.
Western Victoria is enduring its worst drought on record with countless farming families struggling with failed crops, broken dreams and livestock they are battling to feed.
Moved by the plight of farmers and their desperate need of support, comedian and 3AW radio regular, Marty Fields has brought together a stellar line up of big names for an All-Star comedy fundraiser.
Dave Hughes, Jimeoin,, Arj Barker, Lehmo, Dave Thornton, Kristy Webeck, Des Dowling, Bron lewis and Greg Champion will be performing as part of The Big Dry Comedy Night at The Comics Lounge in North Melbourne on Sunday, July 27.
Hosted by Fields, all money raised on the night will go to Rural Aid, which is helping Victorian farmers survive and rebuild.
“Our farmers are the backbone of this country,” Fields said.
“They’re doing it tougher than ever, so it’s time to stand up for the bush – one joke at a time. “Grab a ticket, have a laugh, and know you’re making a real difference.”
Having grown up in country Victoria, Hughes said he jumped at the chance to be involved.
“It breaks my heart to see Western District farmers doing it so tough,” Hughes said.
“They work so hard and contribute so much to their communities. Hopefully we can put a smile on their faces and alleviate their financial stress ever so slightly.”
Rural Aid CEO John Warlters said the show of support was so important for farmers struggling under the crushing drought conditions.
“Rural Aid is deeply grateful to Marty and this outstanding line up of Aussie comedians for coming together to deliver not just a night of laughter, but a powerful message of hope for farmers battling the ongoing drought,” Warlters said.
“When communities rally to raise funds, it sends a clear and heartfelt signal to farming families across the country that you are seen, you are supported, and you are not alone.”
