Leading designer Effie Kats has married in a fairytale Melbourne wedding.
Kats wed finance broker James Cerolini on Saturday in a ceremony at St Patrick’s Cathedral before a reception at State Library Victoria.
The bride looked beautiful in a white lace gown by Zuhair Murad after going to Paris multiple times for fittings, plus a second dress by local designer Alin Le’kal.
“It exceeded every expectation I had,’’ Kats said on Sunday.
“Every part of it just blew my mind. It was great. I had a wedding planner, Valentina, I could not have done it without her. There were small hiccups along the way, but it was the perfect day.”
There were 260 guests in attendance, including Melbourne socialites Nadia Bartel, Bec Judd, Rozalia Russian, Lana Wilkinson, Elliot Garnaut, Chris Kontos, Khanh Ong, Jack Charles, Jessie Roberts, Jade Kisnorbo, Jessie Murphy, Sally Crinis, Suzy Eskander, Michelle Greene, Marie Uva, Toni Maticevski and Jo Constable who introduced the couple.
The MC was Byron Cooke, the DJ was Perri Lee, with women asked to wear black or gold.
Kats, founder of Effie Kats and Bayse Brand, oftens creates showpiece gowns for Melbourne’s big names.
Her bridal party was to include DJ Havana Brown but she couldn’t be there on the night due to a prior tour commitment.
One guest described the wedding as “chic and elegant” with the dancefloor pumping as 90s icon Joanne took to the stage to deliver a hit remix including her classic song Jackie.
Cerolini proposed in August 2021 during lockdown and the couple will honeymoon in Tokyo.
“I’ve gone to so many events and I had a whole list of things in my mind that I knew I wanted,’’ Kats said.
“I’m so glad it went to plan and that everyone had a fantastic night. It’s a sign of a good wedding that everyone is on the dancefloor and there was even some Greek dancing.”
Kats said she would hyphenate her name and use Kats-Cerolini.
“I’m Effie Kats for life but I’m happy to hyphenate it,’’ she said.
