Abbey Gelmi is officially on maternity leave as she counts down to the birth of her first child with partner, former Richmond star Kane Lambert.
The Seven News sport presenter felt “all the love” before finishing up on the Monday night bulletin.
Colleague Rebecca Maddern hosted a baby shower for her at the weekend ahead of her due date in March.
Holding a bunch of flowers alongside newsreader Mike Amor, Gelmi posted:
“Annnd she’s officially on leave. Thank you @7newsmelbourne @mikeoz7 for the lovely (and very unnecessary) send off. Lucky to have a job I can’t wait to come back to! @channel7.”
On Sunday Gelmi uploaded pictures from her baby shower that was attended by friends and many colleagues including Abbey Holmes and Sonia Marinelli.
She wrote: “My last weekend of work before little one arrives celebrated with the women who make it so fun. To @rebeccamaddern who organised the whole thing without me having to lift a finger – you’re a special, special friend. Feeling all the love x.”
Gelmi announced in October that she and Lambert were expecting, telling the Herald Sun: “While it’s been a such special time, I’ve been quite unwell.
“I could not have felt more supported by my work family at Seven and I am so grateful for the grace they’ve given me, especially during the Commonwealth Games.
“It’s been a very busy few months for us and we’re excited about what’s to come.”
Gelmi and Lambert have been together since 2021 following her move to Melbourne from Sydney.
In May, she revealed the couple was in the process of building their dream home.
Lambert, a three-time premiership Tiger, retired last year after 135 games and has stayed with the club in an off-field role.
