Abbey Gelmi and footy beau Kane Lambert a perfect match

Opposites attract when it comes to football’s latest couple Abbey Gelmi and Kane Lambert, but that’s what makes them a “good match”.

Abbey Gelmi is bunkering down in preparation for the jewel in her TV career so far — hosting the Olympics in prime-time.

The granddaughter of middle distance running legend Herb Elliott, Gelmi moved to Melbourne earlier this year and has also become a new AFL WAG, striking up a romance with Richmond premiership star Kane Lambert.

“Kane’s really good,’’ Gelmi said.

“He’s pretty shy and I’m not, so we’re a good match.

“I’m lucky of all the sports Seven put to air I’ve hosted all of them which is really nice so I guess this is the final part. Olympics is like a mecca to me and something that’s always been important to my family. I’m a little nervous but excited.”

Gelmi will host for Channel 7 alongside Hamish McLachlan.

“Melbourne feels like home already which is really nice,’’ she said at the Two Pounds pop-up restaurant in Armadale.

“This is a really nice excuse to catch up with girlfriends because the rest has been pretty studious.”

Gelmi and Lambert stepped out for the first time together in May at the book launch of Gelmi’s good friend, Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac.

The pair have been keeping their relationship quiet and staying off social media.

Gelmi, who grew up in Perth, reverted to her maiden name after her marriage to fellow sports broadcaster Ben Way ended last year.

She is part of the Olympics hosting team along with Johanna Griggs, Luke Darcy, Matt Shirvington, Edwina Bartholomew, Lisa Sthalekar and Andy Maher.
