AGENT: Troy Dowker, Ray White Mermaid Beach

PRICE: $5.5 million

SOLD: July 15, 2018

FORMER V8 Supercar driver Paul Weel sold his Gold Coast beachfront mansion in a $5.5 million deal.

Marketing agent Troy Dowker, of Ray White Mermaid Beach, said local buyers snapped up the Palm Beach house on The Esplanade.

“They had something similar, it was like a trade up,” he said.

“It was either that or they were going to redevelop their own block — this just saves them the hassle of redevelopment.”

Weel and his wife, Emma, listed their Hamptons-inspired house on the market in May.

The couple bought the property, which was originally home to a rundown beach shack, for $3.09 million in 2015.

The house that stands on the 824sq m block today was finished in early 2017 and spans three levels.

Boasting five bedrooms, six bathrooms, breathtaking ocean views, polished concrete and timber floors, white VJ walls and high ceilings, Mr Dowker said it attracted a lot of attention from house hunters on the Gold Coast as well as interstate and overseas.

After 46 days on the market, he said the campaign generated 53 inquiries and more than 17,000 online page visits.

“The amount of page visitors online was huge,” Mr Dowker said.

He said the sale was finalised four days after the expressions of interest campaign ended.

Incorporating quality, creativity, and fine design with incredible attention to detail, renowned architect Bayden Goddard was responsible for the design of the multimillion-dollar home.

Responsible for many of Queensland’s most extravagant and prominent homes, 504 The Esplanade features many of the hallmarks of Bayden Goddard’s award-winning architecture.

Designed in the ever-popular Hamptons style, the residence is aesthetically striking with its terrace and balconies, windows and gable rooftop, all of which translates easily to the Gold Coast beachfront.

“It all makes for a very comfortable, very natural and easy style of living in one of the most beautiful places on earth,” Mr Dowker said.

The intimate main living space and kitchen is nothing short of a knockout, with a black granite benchtop stealing the scene. The fully — customised kitchen features ample cabinetry, luxurious gold statement pendant lighting, a walk-in butler’s pantry and quality appliances.

Of open-plan design, indoor and outdoor living blend smoothly.

In addition to its prime beachfront locale, the property is also surrounded by manicured gardens for entertaining or to keep children amused.

AGENT: Carol Carter, Queensland Sotheby’s

PRICE: $5.6 million

SOLD: January 31, 2018

DESIGNED by award-winning architect Paul Uhlmann, privacy, space light and the Australian beach lifestyle are all at the fore in this perfectly-positioned elevated beach house.

Considered one of the most sought after streets in Currumbin, according to agent Carol Carter of Queensland Sotheby’s, with great elevation and views, the position, view and proximity to both the beach and the Currumbin Village were the key factors behind the sale, Mrs Carter said.

Mrs Carter has seen the property sold several times over the years.

“I sold it to the original owners who pulled down the original cottage and rebuilt the Paul Uhlmann Architecturally-designed home,” she said.

“I then sold it to the previous owners, and then resold it from them to the new owner. The previous owners sold as they relocated to Sydney for professional reasons.”

The new owners, which property records reveal to be Katherine Vidgen and Robert Andrew Forsyth Dunlop, an investment banker and member of the Palm Beach Surf Lifesaving Club, are based interstate and intend to keep the property with its easy beach access as their holiday home.

Taking full advantage of views over the Pacific Ocean, the property is awash with luminous sunlight yet protected from the southerly winds due to its unique design, woven into the natural Currumbin hillside. The quality of properties on Currumbin Hill has continually improved over the years, with so few prime positions available.

The home was recognised for its unique architecture and outstanding suspended concrete construction, was previously awarded the prestigious Sloping Site Master Builders Award.

The tri-level home incorporates six bedrooms and six bathrooms and has been designed specifically to provide space for a family to grow into and host visiting friends.

Open plan living is at the core of the home with the relaxed use of timber and glass throughout. The kitchen, main lounge and dining areas are one and flow seamlessly to the oversized north-facing balcony and pool terrace outdoors.

Two separate living areas, gymnasium and the fully self-contained guest accommodation complete the generous proportions of this home.

Maximising the position, the 16m heated lap pool is drenched in sunlight throughout the day.

AGENT: Michael Kollosche, Kollosche Prestige Agents

PRICE: $6.5 million

SOLD: June 14, 2018

HONG KONG billionaire Tony Fung decided the Gold Coast high life was not for him and sold his castle in the sky for $6.5 million — the penthouse in beachfront super-tower Soul.

Mr Fung never lived in the four-level Surfers Paradise apartment, bought as a shell from receivers for $7 million three years prior to the sale.

The penthouse, which sits more than 220m above sea level and includes Queensland’s highest private pool and spa, was sold by Michael Kollosche of Kollosche Prestige Agents.

Mr Fung is selling it because, while on the Gold Coast, he is content to live on his boat, the Asteria, or at Aquis Farm, his 447ha racehorse breeding property at Canungra.

In the wake of buying the 1040sq m penthouse at a 2015 auction, Mr Fung engaged architectural firm BVN to create a bespoke design and the apartment today has approval for a larger internal living area.

Mr Kollosche said the penthouse space provided a blank canvas for the new owner to create a luxury apartment in any style or configuration they wanted.

“This really is a unique opportunity for the right buyer to partner with architects and interior designers to put their own stamp on what is a truly incredible space,” he said.

“The location, the views and the high-end luxury of the building deserve something very special.

“We will be marketing the property internationally, but we would also expect to see some strong interest from local buyers who understand the value and location.”

The residence features six ensuited bedrooms, a double-storey lobby, and a glass internal lift.

Mr Kollosche said the size of the penthouse was one of the key selling points.

“At more than 1000sq m, it is 30 per cent bigger than the Australia 108 penthouse in Melbourne that sold for $25 million in,” he said at the time of the sale.

RETIRED corporate executive David Baird and his wife Marion smashed the Australian sales record for a house fronting a golf course, when they splashed $6.5 million on a property at Sanctuary Cove early last year.

The four-bedroom home at 2230 Arnold Palmer Drive, was sold off-market by Ray White Sanctuary Cove’s Matt Gates.

Mr Gates said Sanctuary Cove was popular with high-net-worth individuals for its quality lifestyle.

“The Baird’s bought the house on their first inspection just before it hit the market,” Mr Gates said.

“It was a prerelease inspection for the Baird’s and they bought it on the spot for a premium price.”

No stranger to Sanctuary Cove, the Baird’s have owned property there since it was developed.

Their latest purchase features a floorplan that opens out to the pool.

“It’s a luxury finished house with a fantastic outlook across the golf course, plus it is single storey which was our preference,” Mr Baird said.

“We were attracted by the elegance and location of the property.”

Located in the suburb of Hope Island, residents of Sanctuary Cove enjoy a resort lifestyle with access to two championship golf courses, a 313-berth marina, a trendy retail precinct, the Intercontinental Sanctuary Cove resort hotel and 24-hour security.

The 474-hectare gated enclave is designed around four harbours on the Coomera River.

Previous owners Michael and Michelle Cowling built their home 18 months prior to selling using the best fittings possible.

“We’ve put a lot of love and thought into this home and we hope David and Marion will enjoy it for many years to come,” Mrs Cowling said at the time of the sale.

“We are moving on to a new project within Sanctuary Cove, so not moving too far away.”

FIVE bedrooms, five bathrooms, a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a steam room, a state-of-the-art media room and a billiards room — this grand Isle of Capri home certainly has it all.

Gold Coast entrepreneur David Baird and his wife Marion sold the waterfront home for $8.8 million to a private interstate Asian buyer early last year. The retired business executive and his wife bought the waterfront house as a “weekender” in 2013 for $6.35m.

It took less than one week for the property to be sold off-market.

“Following the sale of this house we will be moving to Paradise Waters,” Mr Baird, a retired corporate executive, said at the time of the sale.

“We didn’t have the house on the market but it sold within a week. It was a very quick sale and we were very happy with the outcome.”

Agent Sam Guo of Ray White Broadbeach, who handled the sale, said it was perhaps no coincidence the quick sale came during Chinese lunar golden week. In China, the number eight is a symbol of wealth and fortune.

“The house is in one of the best positions on the whole Gold Coast,” Mr Guo said.

“It faces due north and it has a water view to Adam’s Basin.

“It’s a beautiful and such a solid suspended concrete home with immense style and of grand proportions.”

Unfolding across three luxurious levels, over an expansive 1484sq m, the floorplan seamlessly blends open-plan indoor and outdoor living, ideal for entertaining. An entire level is dedicated to king size bedrooms, each with their own ensuite, while the main bedroom is fitted with dual dressing rooms and a spa bathroom.

The beachfront residence also includes a solar heated swimming pool, its own private sandy beach and a serviced pontoon.

AGENT: Michael Kollosche, Kollosche Prestige Agents

PRICE: $9 million

SOLD: April 27, 2018

THE $9 million sale of 8 Marseille Court placed it in the top five property sales on the Gold Coast last year.

Stretching across 70m of Nerang River frontage, this exquisite property boasts idyllic views over the water. It also has a host of outdoor amenities that make it the ultimate entertainer’s paradise.

One of its most desirable features is its resort-sized infinity pool: The luxury pool is fit with a 17m lane for laps, plus a diving board.

There’s also a tennis court and an alfresco area with a kitchen and fireplace for outdoor dining and summer soirees.

For lovers of the water, the property is equipped with its own pontoon on the river, plus a boat shed, winch and ramp. Additionally, it’s just a short drive to the vast array of local beaches.

The interior is just as impressive as outside, with a temperature-controlled wine cellar, a fully-equipped gym with a steamer, a media room and a music room just a small selection of the luxurious features. Boasting flawless marble and lustrous polished timber finishes throughout, this light-filled, architecturally designed sanctuary caters perfectly to those who demand excellence.

The 1,299sq m home sprawls across a sweeping 2,703sq m block and features five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, including a lavish main bedroom and guest quarters.

The dreamy main bedroom suite flaunts a fireplace, a huge walk-in luxury dressing room and its own private balcony terrace to soak up those views. Stackable glass doors are adorned by plantation shutters and retract to reveal uninterrupted wide water views.

It’s also the perfect house for hosting visiting guests, with a private suite with separate entry that boasts a kitchenette, an ensuite and walk-in robe.

Michael Kollosche, the director of Kollosche Prestige Agents handled the sale and said that the properties enviable location, its size and the 70m river frontage were all key selling points.

“The previous owner set out to build a family home that they could really enjoy the lifestyle on the river,” Mr Kollosche said.

“She had two young children at the time who have now grown up; it was about utilising space.”

“It was a really good home to raise a family. The owner has told me that it was the home that all the kids’ friends would come and spend weekends. It’s a family oriented area, lots of kids in the street.”

REAL estate agents have claimed this luxury unit is the best in all of Gold Coast’s glitter strip.

Just behind the Surfers Paradise Esplanade sits the Chevron Renaissance and on top of the Chevron Renaissance sits an impressive 918sq m penthouse which sold for a sizeable $9.5 million.

“I have never seen a Penthouse that comes close to rivalling this property,” Kollosche Prestige Agents’ Michael Kollosche said.

“It is without a doubt the best penthouse on the Gold Coast and every leading prestige agent that has inspected the property has felt the same.

“From the moment you step out of the lift every detail has been meticulously thought out.”

Property records indicate the penthouse apartment was snapped up by Kevin and Vicki Chatfield.

The 39th and 40th floor used to be office space for the developer which built the towers, but after the company folded, the floor space was sold off.

Ron Bakir seized the opportunity to turn the floor space into an apartment and set to work creating a wishlist of features for his perfect skyhome.

The result was impressive, with a long list of luxurious features, including 12 drop-down flat screens in the ceiling, along with a private cinema and only the finest of finishings.

In the centre of the apartment there’s wine cabinets built into the walls.

Four luxury bedroom suites including the spectacular main bedroom and lavish marble ensuite with raised bath podium occupy the expansive floorplan.

A mirror-lined stairwell, illuminated by an exquisite crystal chandelier, leads up to a casual entertaining lounge with teppanyaki barbecue, billiards area, gymnasium and sauna at rooftop level.

A sleek commercial-sized bar serves indoor and outdoor sitting areas and on the terrace luxuriant ‘green’ walls are interspersed by picture windows framing breathtaking views over the Gold Coast’s famous white sand beaches.

Expanses of glass in every room capture 360 degree panoramic views over the city, beaches, the blue Pacific Ocean, main river and Gold Coast hinterland. Balconies on every aspect admit fresh sea breezes while offering outdoor living options.

The apartment also comes with 21 car parks and close to 600sq m of storage in the car park levels.

“Moving to a penthouse usually means compromising, whether that is on space, storage, car spaces, quality, design and much more,” Mr Kollosche said.

“However, this amazing property overcomes all of those usual compromises.”

AGENT: Amir Mian, Amir Mian Prestige Property Agents

PRICE: $11.05 million

SOLD: July 25, 2018

THIS mega mansion on Sovereign Island hit the market for $14.88 million, more than double its 2010 selling price, but sold for $11.05 million in September last year.

Vendors Brian and Eileen Peat bought Grand Vista at auction for $7 million from receivers in 2010.

It was Gold Coast developer John Fish’s mansion which had previously been on the market in 2009 for $15 million.

Mr Fish paid $6.5 million for the home in 2003 and had undertaken a major refurbishment but when the Peats bought the property it was incomplete.

They then spent big bucks transforming it from a Mediterranean-style mansion into a contemporary resort-style haven.

“The floor was concrete, the kitchen was tiny and there were whole areas of blank space,” Mr Peat said.

“We rewired a lot of things, changed the lighting and installed CBUS (a hi-tech home automation system) throughout.”

The home takes up most of a 2103sq m block and overlooks the Broadwater.

It has 55m of water frontage and features multiple entertainment areas, seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms with extensive marble and timber flooring.

Prior to the sale, the Peats had lived on The Sovereign Islands since 2007.

They said Grand Vista’s privacy, luxury features and sprawling design initially sparked their interest.

“A lot of big houses don’t have the separation that this property does,” Mr Peat said at the time of the sale.

“You can have a big house but you are all on top of each other whereas here there’s plenty of different areas.”

Amir Mian Prestige Property Agents principal Amir Mian was responsible for the sale of the property.

“The property is suitable for someone who wants privacy and wants something unique,” he said when the property was first listed.

Elite living spaces and 7 king sized bedrooms all with ensuites and walk-in wardrobes take precedence, with an array of formal and casual living spaces, which will provide the new owners the opportunity to host large scale private functions from the comfort of their own home.

Entering through the front double doors, the light-filled palatial foyer features an elegant marble and wrought iron curved staircase with stunning chandelier and picturesque views of the Broadwater. Stepping forward, an opulent open-plan formal living area with high ceilings and feature fireplace is sophisticated, while to the left a grand dining area is ideally located adjacent to the sublime marble entertainer’s kitchen with butler’s pantry featuring the finest Miele appliances.

PRICE: $11.6 million

SOLD: March 29, 2018

A STUNNING beachfront home in Mermaid Beach’s Millionaires’ Row sold for a massive $11.6m in March 2018, the highest price fetched there last year.

The previous owner, cotton farmer Alan Frost, made over $1m a year off the sale of his 103-105 Hedges Avenue, Mermaid Beach property on the Gold Coast.

The home sold off market for $11.6m, Michael Kollosche of Kollosche Prestige Agents confirmed to The Courier-Mail at the time of the sale.

“It was a Melbourne-based buyer who’s moving to the Gold Coast,” he said.

“The Mermaid Beach market is just very strong because of a lack of supply available.”

The stunning beachfront property is a double block that Mr Frost paid about $6.6m for in June 2014 as part of a mortgagee multi-sale involving companies linked to former V8 Supercars driver and businessman Mark Howard.

Mr Frost went on to land $5m above that purchase price in less than four years.

The most recent sale at 103-105 Hedges Avenue home involved a three bedroom, four bathroom, six car space beachfront house on a massive 810sq m block. Property records indicate it was bought by Bruce Mathieson Junior, the son of richlist Bruce Mathieson.

Mr Mathieson Snr was ranked number 43 on Australia’s 50 Richest 2019, and currently owns 25% of the country’s biggest hotel-and-pub operator, Australian Leisure & Hospitality; the rest is held by local supermarket giant Woolworths.

According to CoreLogic, the land alone was valued at $6.6m, with Mermaid Beach seeing its median house price rise 80.4 per cent in five years.

Set on a double block with a 20m beach frontage, flanked by Pandanus trees and immersed in a tropical beachfront setting, the residence provides an enviable area to entertain guests, cool off in the in-ground lap pool or simply watch the waves roll in from the comfort of your private outdoor sanctuary.

Some of the key features of this magnificent property include a generous main bedroom with two walk-in wardrobes and an ensuite overlooking the ocean, an additional two guest bedrooms with ensuites, a study, separate guest pavilion with own entry, state of the art kitchen with Miele appliances, formal and informal living areas separated by a fireplace, a large sound proof media room with wet bar and powder room and a basement which includes accommodation for six motor vehicles.

AGENT: Tony Velissariou, Tony V Real Estate

PRICE: $12 million

SOLD: August 1, 2018

HEDGES Ave, at Mermaid Beach, is known as Millionaires’ Row and is home to some of the Gold Coast’s most exclusive and impressive properties. So it’s not uncommon for properties on this strip to sell for millions, as was the case when 9 & 11 Hedges Ave sold for a cool $12 million.

Property records reveal the residence was snapped up by billionaire Clive Palmer, adding to his growing property portfolio.

Selling off-market in August last year, the previous owners built the property, calling it home for close to 12 years.

Presiding over Mermaid Beach, the property creates a new definition of luxury beachfront living, offering breathtaking beachfront views.

Flawlessly designed and crafted with the highest-quality materials and finishings, and infused with stylish fluidity, and natural sunlight, the impression is one of absolute luxury.

The Hamptons-inspired property, described by selling agent Tony Velissariou, principal of Tony V Real Estate as the “Gold Coast’s most admired beachfront home” spans over four impressive levels on a spacious 810sq m double block with 20 metres of beach frontage.

Mr Velissariou said the residence’s homely feel was what won the buyer over.

“The Hamptons-style design is very warm and homely,” Mr Velissariou said.

“As soon as (the buyer) stepped inside, they noticed and felt right at home.”

Meticulously designed, the house features indoor and outdoor entertaining on a grand scale.

While the ground floor of the property is the central living hub, the first floor houses the bedrooms and a separate retreat, complete with ensuite sits upstairs on the top floor.

Enviable views aside, the five-bedroom, five-bathroom residence includes basement parking for eight cars, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a fully-airconditioned gym with a boxing ring and a 22m lap pool and steam room outdoors.

An opulent kitchen sits at the heart of the home, seamlessly blending out towards the entertainer’s deck outdoors, and features a 6m long granite bench top, ample cabinetry and stainless steel appliances.

While it won’t be his primary residence, Mr Velissariou said the owner had already been making the most of his new acquisition.

Mr Velissariou said Mr Palmer had originally inquired about a different property but it wasn’t available, so he showed him the house at 9 & 11 Hedges Ave and he didn’t hesitate to make an offer.

Mr Palmer’s $12 million purchase marks the highest sale on the Gold Coast last year.
