AN oceanfront site is set to be transformed in a surfing-inspired tower in the new development hotspot of Palm Beach.
But far from the average unit block, it will have everything from a sunken restaurant to its own private cinema.
Experienced east coast developer H & F Property Group want to build a 14-storey tower on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and 17th Ave which will have 78 units.

The tower, designed by local firm Urbis, will sit immediately south of Sunland Group’s major Magnoli complex now under construction.
Its appearance is inspired by both the area’s famed beach houses and corner shops of the mid to late 20th century.
“Palm Beach is synonymous for the quintessential beach house,” a planning report to council said.
“The beach house was a common addition to Palm Beach during the late 1950s and 1960s when the area saw more homes being built to cater for hordes of holiday makers.

“Analysis also showed the importance of the family-owned corner store/milk bar, introduced in the 1930s, and which have historically and continue to service local residents.
“The proposed development is cognisant of these important design elements and pays homage to the importance of the local corner store and beach house, while integrating design elements that reflect the emerging character of Palm Beach as a unique and identifiable coastal village.”

The earmarked site has been cleared for redevelopment and is currently being used as storage space for a tower development on a neighbouring site.
It will have 18 one-bedroom, 38 two-bedroom, 20 three-bedroom and two four-bedroom units.
Among its features are:
• A cafe sunk into the ground which will form part of the podium and look out over the beach.
• An elevated infinity pool with views of the ocean and a laneway which will run in front of it.
• A specialised surfboard storage room.
• An undercover outdoor cinema for residents with access to the pool.

It is just the latest in a range of towers planned or under construction along the Palm Beach section of the Gold Coast Highway.
Earlier this month the Gold Coast Bulletin revealed plans for a nine-storey mixed-use tower on the corner of the Gold Coast Highway and Twenty Third Ave.
It is earmarked for the site currently occupied by popular cafe-restaurant Avvia.
It comes just months after it was revealed a beloved Palm Beach cafe would soon be demolished to make way for a beachside tower.
Spikexx Espresso is on the site of an eight-level, low-rise development which is proposed for the area.
Locally based developer Drew Group are behind the eight-level tower on a prime 2198 sqm site, which will front Palm Beach Ave and Jefferson Lane.
The boutique tower will have 76 units and three terraces.
