A NEW tower with an art deco design inspired by the famous foreshore at Miami, Florida has been unveiled.
Put forward by the Li Brothers, the Chevron Island project will replace now-shelved plans for a 22-storey high-rise on the site.
Planned for a 2170 sqm site on the corner of Parnoo Street and Stanhill Drive, it will feature 178 bedrooms spread across 75 two or three bedroom units.
It is one of eight towers currently proposed for Chevron Island.
Documents filed with the Gold Coast City Council reveal the project’s design was inspired by Florida’s famous city of Miami.
“The architectural expression draws from the art deco movement in Miami, Florida which has evolved into a global arts precinct in a coastal location, something that Chevron Island can aspire to with the new Home of the Arts development nearby,” the planning report said.
“The art deco language is reflected in the pronounced horizontal and detail treatment of building elements like the balustrades and screens.”

There will be 48 two-bedroom units and 27 three-bedroom apartments, with around 11 on each floor.
The two-level podium at its base will contain a 99-space carpark and a gym for residents.
There will also be a pool.
The Gold Coast Bulletin revealed this morning that the Li Brothers, Baron and Tony, had dumped their previous plans for a “homely” tower on the site.
A development application was lodged in 2016 but it was later withdrawn.
