Geek Speed Dating on Gold Coast: Gamers fall in love with their player 2 with new speed dating event

A speed dating event for Gold Coast “nerds” is bringing anti-social gamers together to find true love.

A SPEED dating event for “nerds” is joining anti-social gamers together to find true love.

Checkpoint esports in Surfers Paradise are hosting their second “Geek Speed Dating” night after the first one in February for Valentines Day was a huge success.

Love was found among the 48 people who attended, 25 females and 23 males, with four people coupling up after romance was sparked within the arcade.

Events co-ordinator Nathan Farmer plays a ‘geeky’ version cupid and said it’s not like traditional speed dating because it’s bringing people together who share the same interests — typically for gaming.

“I introduce myself and tell everyone not to expect to find love, but if it comes that’s awesome,” he said.

PRODUCERS LOOKING FOR “LOTS OF” LONELY HEARTED GOLD COAST MEN TO APPLY FOR NEXT BACHIE SEASON

“A lot of (gamers) are quite insecure because they often play alone.

“It’s not so confronting because you’re talking about your favourite movie or game with someone who shares the same interests.

“It’s all about helping that community who are usually afraid to come out of their comfort zone and meet their player two.”

A STRUGGLING GOLD COAST BRIDAL STORE OWNER HOSTS SINGLES PARTY IN ATTEMPT TO SAVE HER BUSINESS

The event is similar to traditional speed dating. A long table is set up through the arcade and attendees have the length of a song to have a conversation with their new potential lover before deciding if they want to see them again by the end of the night.

The next event will be held on Friday April 19 from 7pm to 11pm.
