THE Australian Federal Police have tonight revealed they have conducted “a number of searches” on the Gold Coast today in relation to the death of popular nurse Ravneet Kaur.

Ms Kaur is believed to have been murdered in India during a trip to visit family earlier this month.

Ms Kaur, who was four months pregnant at the time, went for a walk on March 14 and never returned. Her body was found in the Bhakra Canal on March 25, with police launching an investigation into her death.

In a statement to the Bulletin, the AFP tonight confirmed it had conducted searches on the Gold Coast.

“The AFP through its International Operations has been in regular contact with its Indian counterparts to obtain information relating to the death of Ms Kaur,” the statement said.

“The AFP is aware Indian authorities are actively investigating Ms Kaur’s death and that enquiries remain ongoing.

“The AFP is working closely with the Queensland Police Service to ensure Australian enquiries relating to this matter are being undertaken.

“In support of these enquiries the AFP conducted a number of searches on the Gold Coast today.”

The news came as Ms Kaur was remembered as a “saint” by her friends and former colleagues at an emotional memorial service.

Colleagues from her former workplaces, including Tri Care and a childcare centre, met at Surfers Paradise to celebrate her life.

Headed by former Tri Care colleague Kerrie Hawker, who worked with her for six years, the group listened to two short, heart-felt monologues before observing a minute’s silence.

One woman told the group: “I was really close with (Ravneet), it was one of the reasons why I loved to work on the weekends.

Ms Hawker told the Bulletin Ms Kaur was a beautiful soul and the memorial was held to give closure to those who worked alongside her.

She said it was also a way of celebrating her life, “to remember her the way we wanted to remember her and how she was tragically taken from us.

“We just wanted this to give us a little bit of closure, by remembering her,” she said.

“You have no idea how beautiful this lady was, you’d never meet anyone like her.

“She was a saint. Honest to God, you talk to anyone, they’ll say the exact same thing. Never a bad word, never.”

Ms Hawker said Ms Kaur worked very hard to give her daughter the best life she ever could.

“We can’t get our head around it… it’s all gone. She didn’t deserve this. She’s special,” she said.

Ms Kaur will also be remembered on Sunday at a larger gathering.
