THE first official trailer for Aquaman has made a splash after debuting for fans at Comic-Con International in San Diego on the weekend.
The slick new peek at the Gold Coast filmed blockbuster was introduced to fans by stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and director James Wan.
“One of the biggest things I wanted to do was create a superhero film we haven’t seen before,” Wan said.
“Ours a little different and unique, my movie more like sci-fi film than a traditional superhero movie.”

The VFX-loaded trailer for the DC Comics film is a visual feast with footage of scenes captured at the film’s Hastings Point lighthouse set, Coomera boatyards backlot set and in the water tanks at Village Roadshow studios.
Ironically, Baywatch star Abdul-Mateen II shocked the audience when he admitted he learnt to swim for his role as Black Manta.
AQUAMAN MAKES SPLASH ON THE GOLD COAST
“I actually secretly taught myself how to swim, buying goggles and a kickboard and doing it every morning in the hotel pool,” he said.
“And I didn’t ever have to swim.”
The young Aquaman features heavily in the footage alongside marine creatures including golden gilled soldierlike fish, menacing sharks and underwater armies riding sea horses.
Kidman, who plays Aquaman’s mother, spoke about her opening scene in the film.
“My opening scene, I had to lie on a rock, with massive waves crashing over me,” she said.
“I told James, the bigger the better, give it to me, that’s why I’m doing this movie.”
Aquaman opens in Australia on December 13.
