AMBER Heard has given fans their first look at her as mermaiden Mera in Aquaman, the latest Hollywood blockbuster to film on the Gold Coast.

Heard Tweeted a picture of herself in a shimmering green-scale-like catsuit costume on her first day on set, captioning it “Meet Mera. Day 1 #Aquaman.”

The model turned Zombieland and The Rum Diary actress also posted a picture of herself in the make-up chair on her Instagram page, captioning it: Day 1 of filming ... here we go! #aquaman

Heard has spent the past few weeks in “intensive” training for what looks set to be a highly physical role in director James Wan’s stand-alone film about the King of the Seven Seas, played by Jason Momoa.

Cameras began rolling on the $300 million-plus Hollywood epic, the latest in a string of big-budget movies to film on the Coast, earlier this month, with filming to continue until late September.

Billed as a “swashbuckling high seas adventure story” in the spirit of Romancing the Stone and Raiders of the Lost Arc, the DC Comics romp will film on the Gold Coast and in Sicily, Italy.

Aquaman’s all-star cast includes Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren and Temuera Morrison.

Test footage filmed on February 27 and posted online on March 3 by Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice director and Aquaman producer Zack Snyder shows a fishtailed Jason Momoa swimming along the ocean floor.
