Sydney’s Hamzy vs Alameddine feud claims lives as ‘Little Crazy’ sat in jail

Sydney’s gangland war claimed more than a dozen lives while ‘Little Crazy’ Hamzy sat in a jail cell. Here’s what started the bloody feud.

The War Episode 3: Blood and vengeance

While Mohammed “Little Crazy” Hamzy sat in jail, a war between his family and the Alameddine clan broke out that would leave more than a dozen people dead, including five of his relatives.

What started as the bashing and robbery of a crime family foot-soldier led to a drive-by shooting – then days later one of the Hamzy clan was shot dead, sparking one of Sydney’s bloodiest gangland feuds.

A police intelligence report pinpoints the October 14, 2020, attack on Alameddine associate Shaylin Zreika and theft of his mobile phone as the flashpoint for what was to follow.

Two days after he was attacked with a metal pole, another Alameddine crew member was robbed of drugs and again the culprits were members of the Hamzy organisation.

Zreika has never been charged with an offence in relation to the feud.

The next night, 10 shots were fired at family matriarch Maha Hamze’s Auburn Rd home, escalating tensions between the groups.

Ibrahem Hamze, a senior figure in the family was believed to be living there with his mother at the time and the home was where his brother Bilal would also go after his release from jail.

Hours later on October 19, the Merrylands home of Rafat Alameddine, the leader of the family businesses was shot at.

It was assumed it was in retaliation for the shooting at the Auburn home earlier. Neither Maha or Ibrahem Hamze were involved in the shooting attack and no one has been charged.

What the Hamzys were probably not aware of was that the Alameddines had forged links with the Comanchero bikie gang.

At the same time it was rumoured someone had ripped off 400kg of cocaine belonging to the Comancheros.

Suspicion, wrongly, fell on Mejid Hamzy, brother of Brothers for Life gang boss Bassam Hamzy.

The day after Rafat Alameddine’s home was shot up on October 19, 2020, Mejid was shot dead at Condell Park. There is no suggestion Rafat was involved.

When Mejid was shot dead his cousin Bilal Hamze tried to sort things out with the Alameddines to no avail.

In June 2021 Bilal was gunned down on Bridge St in the CBD.

Then, in October that year, Salim Hamze, 18, was gunned down with his innocent father outside their Guildford home.

Four months later, Ghassan Amoun, brother of Mejid was killed outside a beauty parlour at Wentworthville, just three days after his release from jail.

Rafat has never been suspected of being involved in the murders of any of the Hamzys.
