NSW MDMA dealers: suburbs with the most ecstasy charges

Sydney’s rich and famous are getting caught up in the criminal justice system as MDMA floods the city. Three nightclub and festival hotspots recorded the state’s highest numbers of MDMA drug charges.

Australia's Growing Drug Crisis

Party hotspots and festival grounds have proved most popular for NSW’s ecstasy dealers, with new data revealing which suburbs have the highest number of charges laid on people pushing MDMA.

Dial a dealer: Sydney’s drug hot spots exposed

Figures from the Bureau of Crime Statistics reveal where most ecstasy dealers plied their trade across NSW between March 2019 and March 2020.

The Sydney CBD late night hotspot, Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, and popular festival location Sydney Olympic Park recorded the state’s highest numbers of ecstasy dealing charges, with 46, 44, and 38 respectively.

Queanbeyan near the state’s border with Canberra recorded 26 dealers in the year to March 2020.

Parramatta, North Sydney, Albury, Wagga, Paddington and Potts Point rounded out the top 10 postcodes with the most ecstasy drug charges laid across NSW.

The ACIC National Wastewater Drug Monitoring Program Report indicates MDMA tends to trend higher in areas of high-risk entertainment such as dance festivals and licenced venues.

The report also indicates a lower usage rate of MDMA than other more popular prohibited drugs.
