A father is being remembered as a man with a “heart of gold” who loved his family, car and mates.

Ross Andrew, 62, died on Friday afternoon following a two-car collision at Princes Highway, Sylvania.

Mr Andrew was driving his beloved Ford Falcon when it collided with a Volkswagen van about 1.30pm.

The male driver of the Volkswagen – a man aged in his 30s – sustained serious leg injuries.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

Mr Andrew, who lived at Wattle Grove, was a much loved member of the Ford Fairlane family his friend Nic said.

“Ross had a heart of gold. He loved his family, his cars and his mates. He was always there if someone needed him,” she said.

“The hole that his loss has left on his family, friends and the Ford car community cannot be measured.

“You always knew he agreed or approved of something by the amount of watermelon emojis he posted.

“Ross always had a great comeback and his sarcasm was always on point.”

Nic said Ross gave the best hugs and said she was heartbroken by his loss as well as for his family and friends.

“We have lost someone we all looked up too and laughed with,” she said.

Mr Andrew used to travel to car meet up, where he was an avid photographer, and he would love to go on drives.

Another friend Jacqueline Lander said “RIP Ross Andrew. Still in shock”.

She said she purchased Mr Andrew’s “first pride and joy” – a purple dragster bike and she said she would never forget his “cheeky grin”.

Mr Andrew’s Facebook page is full of photos of his beloved cars including his Ford Falcon.

Sutherland police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have information or dashcam vision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
