Princes Highway closed both directions after fatal car crash

The Princes Highway at Sylvania has been closed in both directions following a fatal head-on collision, with motorists advised to avoid the area.

A man has died following a two-car crash at Sylvania on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the Princes Hwy about 1.30pm after reports a Ford Falcon and a Volkswagen van collided.

The male driver who was the sole occupant of the Ford – believed to be aged in his 60s – died at the scene.

The male driver of the Volkswagen – a man believed to be aged in his 30s – sustained serious leg injuries.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated him the scene before he was taken to St George Hospital in a stable condition.

Sutherland Shire police officer have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A police statement said the road was closed in both directions from Port Hacking and Box Roads, with diversions in place.

Northbound traffic should use The Boulevarde, Port Hacking Rd to return to the Princes Hwy while southbound drivers should travel via Port Hacking Rd, The Boulevarde and then can return to the Princes Hwy.

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have information or dashcam vision to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
