The nephew of one of Australia’s most wanted and accused drug trafficker Hakan “Big Hux” Ayik will now be allowed to attend his own wedding, a court has heard.
Ayhan Dogan, 26, appeared in Downing Centre District Court on Wednesday where his lawyer sought a bail variation.
Dogan has pleaded not guilty to serious drug supply and importation charges.
Dogan was arrested following an Australian Federal Police investigation into the encrypted communication platform AN0M.
Police allege Dogan had communicated with his 20-year-old relative Yusuf Ayik via the AN0M app to ask him to drive him to a drug deal at a Rockdale car park on May 14 in 2021 to sell 1kg of ice.
Yusuf Ayik — of Brighton-Le-Sands and also a relative of Hakan Ayik — would receive $1000 in return. He pleaded guilty to taking part in the supply of a commercial quantity of meth.
In August last year Yusuf Ayik was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 18 months.
Jiun Loong Chai, 34, who was also involved in the alleged drug deal was sentenced in Downing Centre District Court in November to two years in jail after he pleaded guilty to supplying a commercial quantity of meth.
Police further allege AN0M messages linked Dogan to 3kg of ketamine buried in the yard of his home and several drug imports from overseas.
Dogan has been charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of prohibited drug; two counts of importing a marketable quantity of border controlled drug; trafficking a commercial quantity of controlled drug; dealing with the proceeds of indictable crime of more than $10,000; and contravening requirement in section 3LA order, warrant serious offence/terrorism, which compels a person to reveal their private encryption keys and personal identification numbers or passwords.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
In court, Dogan’s lawyer asked if his client’s curfew condition could be varied on November 26 so he can attend his wedding at his partner’s Cecil Hills’ home in the company of his parents.
He also requested to be able to attend a dentist in Kogarah.
The Crown did not oppose the application. Dogan will be arraigned in Downing Centre District Court on November 24 where a trial date will be set.
