Yusuf Ayik: Relative of Hakan ‘Big Hux’ Ayik sentenced after AN0M sting

A relative of alleged drug trafficker Hakan Ayik, the so-called “Facebook gangster”, has been jailed after he was caught up in drug deal which would’ve pocketed him a lowly $1000.

The sting of the century

A relative of Australia’s most wanted, the alleged drug trafficker, Hakan “Big Hux” Ayik who earned the moniker “the Facebook gangster”, has been sentenced to three years jail after a ploy to supply more than 1kg of the drug ice went terribly wrong.

Brighton-Le-Sands man Yusuf Ayik had pleaded guilty to taking part in the supply of a commercial quantity of meth.

The court heard the 22-year-old man was set to pocket just $1000 for driving a relative to a drug deal in his mother’s car.

Agreed facts state Yusuf Ayik was using AN0M to speak to 24-year-old Ayhan Dogan, who allegedly asked Ayik if he could drive him to a drug deal to sell 1kg of ice.

Dogan – who is also a relative of “Big Hux” – allegedly told Yusuf Ayik they should meet up to discuss their plan, to which Ayik replied: “Alright no worries … let’s go sell some f**king meth”.

Ayik later drove Dogan in his mother’s car to a Rockdale car park, where a white package was handed over to 34-year-old Jiun Loong Chai.

Dogan later allegedly told another man he had ripped off Chai for $75,000 by actually selling him soda crystals instead of ice, according to the facts.

The man convinced Dogan to correct the alleged drug rip and he returned the money to Chai at a meeting while Ayik was present.

In court, Judge Deborah Sweeney said Yusuf Ayik had a difficult upbringing, enduring family violence and having a father who spent time in custody for drug supply.

“His role was as a driver … he drove for a short distance and was involved for a short period of time,” Judge Sweeney said.

The court also heard Ayik’s time in custody has been difficult as he has been placed in protection due to his high-profile relatives — protection which involved being locked in a cell for more than 23 hours a day.

Ayik had previously been involved in the youth wing of the Labor Party and had served as Macquarie University Labor Society’s assistant secretary before he was arrested in the international AN0M sting last June.

Ayik’s arrest is just one in a string of Operation Ironside arrests where police were secretly following a trail of messages on the ANOM app — a trojan horse set up by the Australian Federal Police and FBI to monitor criminal networks.

Ironically, Ayik’s cousin, “Big Hux”, is a fugitive hiding out in Turkey who authorities claimed had urged other criminals to use ANOM while not realising that police were able to read millions of messages on the app in real time. Yusuf Ayik is not accused of being involved in his cousin’s alleged wrongdoing.

For his offence, Ayik was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 18 months. Having already spent time behind bars, the earliest he can be released is December 6.

Dogan and Chai are charged with commercial drug supply. They remain before the courts.
