The son of NRL legend ‘Lord’ Ted Goodwin allegedly made multiple dead drops of kilograms worth of illegal drugs interstate and throughout Sydney for the Comanchero bikie gang, a court has heard.

Grayson Goodwin, the son of St George great ‘Lord Ted’ Goodwin and brother of former NRL star Bryson, sobbed through his bail application at Sutherland Local Court on Monday after he was one of three people arrested on Friday accused of being a “professional drug courier”.

Police allege Goodwin has “strong and certain links to the Comanchero Outlaw Motorcycle Gang” and actively took part in the supply of cocaine, ketamine, MDMA and meth for a “significant profit”, a police statement of facts said.

Police allege Goodwin’s sole income was from supplying illegal drugs throughout Sydney and interstate which he allegedly used to fund his lifestyle.

In July 2023, police started an investigation into the supply of large commercial amounts of prohibited drugs in greater Sydney and identified that Goodwin would use two cars to conduct multiple, short turnaround interstate trips.

Police used physical and electronic surveillance to monitor Goodwin where he would allegedly attend his mother’s Cronulla address for short periods of less than five minutes before or after he would travel interstate, allegedly to supply drugs.

His mother is not accused of any wrongdoing.

Raptor officers conducted a covert search warrant at the garage at his mother’s house on October 27 where they seized 5.1kg of ketamine, 184g of methylamphetamine and 692g of MDMA.

Goodwin was arrested on November 10 at San Souci and police found encrypted communication on his phone about supplying drugs.

Police allege Goodwin made admissions to being a drug runner who conducted multiple “dead drops” of kilograms worth of drugs and large amounts of cash, documents said.

Goodwin allegedly told police he had become a “professional drug courier” after he had fallen on hard times.

Police searched his Cronulla home where they found 154g of cocaine and $24,050 cash above his fridge; and 1548g of meth and 106g of ephedrine in the garage.

During a review of the Goodwin’s encrypted app, police allegedly found chats which outlined he had a key role in storing and supplying kilograms worth of drugs in exchange for extensive amounts of cash from $80,000 to $200,000.

Goodwin was charged with four counts of supplying a large commercial quantity of drugs; another four counts of supplying an indictable to commercial quantity of drugs and two counts knowingly dealing in the proceeds of crime.

About 7am on Friday, officers executed four simultaneous search warrants at homes Caringbah and Darling Point.

At the Darling Point address, police arrested another 34-year-old man who was charged with knowingly deal with proceeds of crime and three counts of possess prescribed restricted substance. He was refused bail before Waverley Local Court the same day.

A 28-year-old woman at the Caringbah address was issued a court attendance notice for drug possession.

In court, a police prosecutor submitted Goodwin – who was supported in court by 12 family members and friends – was a “significant flight risk” due to his alleged bikie links.

Magistrate Holly Kemp refused to grant bail noting the very serious drug supply allegations, the strong prosecution case and the likelihood that if convicted he would receive a lengthy custodial sentence.

Goodwin made headlines in 2014 when he posted a homophobic slur on Twitter and was hit with an unprecedented 26-week ban by NSWRL.

Just weeks later he was in the headlines again, being blamed for leaking an infamous photo of NRL star Todd Carney drinking his own urine.

The case will return to court next year.
