FLAMES engulfed the bonnet of a car in North Manly on Sunday afternoon after it was involved in an accident.
Heavy traffic ground to a halt on Pittwater Rd near Riverview Ave after the two-car prang, which happened just after 1pm.
It’s understood a rear-end collision of the Subaru and a BMW triggered the blaze.
Manly Fire Station commander Stephen Brown said the crash caused the Subaru’s fuel line to rupture and the fuel caught fire.
Firefighters received the call at 1.15pm and a Manly crew was on the scene by 1.18pm.
Mr Brown said the driver of the Subaru had managed to get out of the car immediately after the accident.
The fire crew then put the blaze out with water and foam. Mr Brown said the nature strip near the car was singed from the flames.
Paramedics were called to the scene but neither drivers required treatment.
Traffic was diverted for a short time, with cars driving north on Pittwater Rd forced to turn around.
The incident caused quite the reaction on social media, with residents and passers-by posting pictures. The owner of the Subaru even posted: “My car. Everyone’s fine.”
