A four-storey childcare centre with capacity for 216 children has been proposed for the Manly Motor Registry building on Pittwater Rd.

A development application has been submitted by Avenues Early Learning Centres for the $8.75m project which would see the current structure demolished and replaced with the four level centre, a rooftop outdoor play area, parking for forty-four car spaces and landscaping. It is proposed to operate from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

The site, located at 239 Pittwater Road, is currently a motor registry that has been operating for more than 60 years.

The site went up for sale in June last year and was snapped up for $6.75 million.

Public submissions on the proposal opened yesterday and will go until April 15.

A Manly Council spokesman said the application would be processed in the normal course of a DA and all public feedback would be considered.

The applicant, Avenues Early Learning Centres, was contacted for comment but did not respond before deadline.

They currently only have centres in Queensland.
