HAYLEY Baulderstone said she was “really surprised” when she was crowned runner-up national rhythmic gymnastics champion.

The Chatswood North Ryde Rhythmic Gymnastics gymnast and Queenwood student is this week’s Junior Sports Star nominee.

Hayley, 14, won silver in the junior level 9 division at nationals in June. She was runner-up at the 2016 NSW titles and won the state titles last year.

She is now training in the junior international division after her success at nationals.

Hayley started gymnastics when she was five. “My sister was training and I had to watch her and it was boring, so I just started learning,” she said.

“It’s a great sport and I really love it. My last nationals and going to the New Zealand championships representing Australia have been my biggest achievements.”

Coach Nicole Higham said Hayley’s advancement through the national ranks was promising for her 2018 Commonwealth Games aspirations.
