UNEXPECTEDLY competing at a higher grade gave these netballers underdog status, but they persevered and their infallible team spirit carried them through the season.
Mosman Netball Club’s Team 37 are this week’s Junior Sports Star nominees in the Team Spirit category.
Trish Daley coached the girls with high school student Sophie Barrie last year.
Daley said the team expected to compete in 11B grade, but ended up in the higher 11A grade where they faced rep level competitors.
“That really disadvantaged us because none were playing at rep level,” she said. “That’s why it was difficult for them.”
The girls won one game the whole season.
“In the third round they won by one goal,” Daley said. “It was their season highlight.”
Daley said the girls’ team spirit was so renowned that girls from other teams wanted to join Team 37, despite their streak of losses.
“It made them tighter; they were in a team that had something special,” she said.
