The spiralling growth of the Camden region is set to trigger record numbers at Oran Park Public School, with indications the school will begin the year at 150 per cent capacity.
The school, which opened in 2014, is expected to have a cohort of 1050 this week, a surge of 300 additional students in the last 12 months.
The school, which opened in 2014, has a current capacity of 700.
A Department of Education spokesman said work on an extra 24 classrooms was expected to begin midyear.
“Construction on the project at Oran Park Public School is expected to start in mid-2018 and be completed in early 2020,” he said.
“The department releases NSW public school enrolment data in March each year — it constantly monitors enrolments to ensure schools are appropriately resourced. All students are entitled to enrol in their local public school.”
Upgrades will include expanded administration areas, shade structures, covered outdoor learning area and extra student amenities.
