Plans for the new 2000-student Oran Park High School have been modified, after a community backlash over a lack of parking and objections from Camden Council in June.
The changes include an additional 90 car parking spaces, bringing the total to 149, and expanded bus and drop-off zones.
It is a significant boost from the 10 car parking spaces previously planned for the high school.
The Oran Park Public School expansion will also receive an additional 20 car parking spaces.
The increase is still more than 100 car parking spaces short for both schools, a Camden Council report showed in June.
Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson declared the changes as a “fantastic result” for the community.
“I spoke to the Minister for Education [Rob Stokes] directly and he assured me he will look into this, and he has,” Mr Patterson said.
“The whole disappointment was Camden Council voting to object to $80 million worth of infrastructure.
“The school wasn’t done for the council, it was done for the community.
“If they are not pleased by the modifications, I don’t know what will please them.”
Independent councillor Eva Campbell labelled the original proposal as “monstrous’’.
“Oran Park Town is a new community, there is no excuse. What is being proposed is monstrous.”
Camden Council’s original objection concerned traffic congestion, insufficient parking, inadequate drop off zones and poor location of bus bays.
A Camden Council spokesman said the council was preparing a formal response to the Department of Planning on the amended plans
