Fresh off approvals for a new-look entry, pedestrian link and multimillion-dollar seniors housing development, Diggers @ The Entrance has lodged further plans to complete its once in a generation makeover.
The former Tuggerah Lakes Memorial Club has lodged a new development application for a 168-seat outdoor terrace, 28-car parking lot, pickleball courts and an upgraded bowling green.
This follows the Central Coast club being granted approval in 2022 for a massive $32.9m, five-storey, 89-unit seniors living complex known as Yungala.
Fences have gone up but construction is yet to begin on that project and, more recently, the club was given the green light for a new porte-cochere entrance, signage and covered pedestrian links.
These followed a previous upgrade involving the construction of a separate two-storey carpark, at the expense of one bowling green, which was a prerequisite to get its Yungala project approved.
Under the new plans, a vacant building on the northwest corner of the site and part of the adjoining club will be torn down to make way for a 285sq m outdoor terrace area and new pickleball courts.
The club’s last remaining bowling green will also be replaced with a brand new green and ancillary upgrades.
Meanwhile, a gravel overflow area will be formalised into a 28-space parking lot, which will be linked to the front entry of the club by a new landscaped footpath.
The application states the changes, which have an estimated cost of less than $10m, will not vary the appearance of the club from the street or adjoining properties to any great degree.
However, the demolition of an old brick building on the site will “improve lake views” for neighbouring homes to the north, according to the application.
The application also states the renovations will service existing patrons and not increase local traffic, while a noise report has found the outdoor terrace and pickleball courts will be compliant so long as mitigation measures are implemented.
The outdoor terrace and courts will be limited to the trading hours of 10am to 10pm, seven days a week.
The plans remain before Central Coast Council for determination.
