Try local, buy local, love local
There’s a special place in the hearts of many Aussies for the humble schnitzel — with it’s delicious coating of fried breadcrumbs. For some there’s no going past the chicken schnitty, and others prefer the more traditional Austrian inspired Wiener schnitzel with its tender centre of veal. Still others prefer crumbed pork. We asked some local eateries to put forward their scrummiest schnitzels:
So many kinds
When it comes to schnitzels — nobody is more committed than Australian Schnitzelhaus at Erina which has no fewer than 15 different toppings to choose from on its menu. All of the schnitties are made from top quality tenderised meat which is coated and crumbed, and cooked fresh. One of their most popular menu choices is the ‘Meatlover’. It features freshly tenderised, ‘haus’ seasoned, coated and crumbed schnitzel. This is fried then covered with a generous topping of bacon, chorizo, onion, spiced barbecue sauce and Swisse cheese before baked until mouth-wateringly perfect. There is even a vegetarian version featuring crumber eggplant and schnitzel burgersfor those unable to make their mid up between a burger and a schnitty. The schnitzels come in small, medium and large size.

Buttermilk the key
Ziva eats and pizza at Club Toukley RSL said its chicken schnitty remained a firm favourite and one of the most popular choices on its menu. To prepare it, Ziva’s chef’s soaks the chicken breast is buttermilk overnight to ensure it’s tender and juicy, they then crumb it with delicate crispy panko crumbs and fry it until it’s golden. Ziva chicken schnitzels are then served up with a choice of chips and fresh salad or mash potato and vegetables.
Customers can choose a sauce to suit their taste whether it be traditional gravy or one of our house made sauce such as pepper bacon, garlic mushroom, garlic cream or house specialty Ziva butter. Then there is always the option to make it a Parmy, with a fresh ham, house Napoli sauce and mozzarella cheese topper!
