A 34-year-old man has tragically lost his life after diving into a swimming hole in the Coffs Coast hinterland over the weekend.
The death comes approximately two weeks after a Sydney teenager died at Angourie’s Green Pool, after jumping from a rock ledge.
Emergency services were called to Dangar Falls on Coramba Rd, Dorrigo, about 35 kilometres west of Coffs Harbour, just after midday on Saturday, January 27.
It was reported a man failed to resurface after jumping from the 30-metre tall waterfall.
Police officers, as well as members of the State Emergency Service (SES), searched for the 34-year-old, but were unable to find him.
The search started again early Sunday morning and the teams were assisted by police divers.
The man’s body was found about 4:20pm.
A report into the circumstances surrounding his death will be prepared for the Coroner.
Dangar Falls is a popular tourist destination – with a history of tragic accidents.
Against all safety advice, swimmers have jumped from the falls and kayakers have deliberately plunged 20m into the water below.
In December 2012, a 19-year-old German woman visiting Australia died after she jumped over the falls. Police deemed that incident a “death by misadventure”.
Last August, the body of a 45-year-old Mid-North Coast man was pulled from the water at Dangar Falls after he also failed to resurface.
