A man has drowned at a popular waterfall and swimming hole in the Coffs Harbour hinterlands.
NSW Police have confirmed the body of a 45-year-old Mid-North Coast man was pulled from the water at Dangar Falls, Dorrigo, about 35 kilometres west of Coffs Harbour, on Sunday morning.
Emergency services responded to reports a man swimming at the location failed to resurface about 11.30am.
NSW Police, the State Emergency Service, NSW Ambulance and Westpac carried out an extensive search and the man’s body was retrieved from the water about 6pm.
Police state a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Dangar Falls is a popular tourist destination with a history of tragic accidents.
Against all safety advice, swimmers have jumped from the falls and kayakers have plunged 20m into the water below.
In December 2012, a 19-year-old German woman visiting Australia died after she jumped over the falls.
Police deemed that incident a “death by misadventure”.
