Suspicious fire at Parkside Dr, Tweed Heads South investigated by police

Police are investigating a raging fire which engulfed a not-for-profit processing and packing facility that employs people with disabilities on the Tweed Coast. Here’s what we know.

Suspicious fire at Tweed Heads South

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward after a suspicious fire engulfed a charity building in the Tweed.

Just before 8pm on October 17, 2023, emergency services were called to a massive fire at the Clean Tea/Synergy Group premises on Parkside Dr, Tweed Heads South.

The processing and packing facility had provided job opportunities for people with permanent disabilities.

The business and storage facility were destroyed, with more than 40 firefighters and eight trucks called to battle the blaze.

“Over two days, Fire and Rescue NSW Firefighters battled the blaze,” police state.

“(However) the fire resulted in the destruction of the facility and all property within it.”

There were no reports of injuries as a result of the fire.

A crime scene was established by police officers who commenced inquiries into the incident.

Police have now released CCTV footage of a man and a car seen nearby at the time of the incident.

In the footage, the man wears a white jumper, with dark shorts and white shoes.

The car is a white hatchback.

Police believe the man and any person who was in the car might be able to assist police with their investigation.
