A teenage boy tragically lost his life while swimming in a popular North Coast waterhole over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to Angourie Green Pool, 5km south of Yamba, about 3pm on Sunday following reports a 15-year-old was missing after jumping from a rock ledge.
Emergency services, as well as surf lifesavers and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter, searched for the teenager who had not resurfaced.
At 10pm his body was recovered and it was soon formally identified.
A report into the circumstances surrounding his death will be prepared for the Coroner.
According to Royal Life Saving Australia statistics, more than 40 people have drowned across Australia since summer began on December 1.
