A North Coast father-of-two terrified his former partner, who was 34 weeks pregnant, when she woke up in the middle of the night to find him cleaning her home and threatening to shoot people with a crossbow.

Ramornie man Glen Anderson, 34, fronted Grafton Local Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to intimidation, possessing 22g of cannabis and breaching an apprehended domestic violence order.

The court heard the 34-year-old drove to his ex-partner’s Grafton home on October 23 and asked to stay at her house because he was going through a difficult time.

The woman thought Anderson was “acting very strange” and she was afraid of what he would do when she fell asleep.

“After minimal sleep the victim woke to (Anderson) cleaning her house … (and) this caused an argument,” court documents state.

She soon spotted a crossbow and asked Anderson to leave, but he refused.

When she told him she would call the police, Anderson replied: “If you call the police, I will shoot you,” a court heard.

He also said he would “shoot (the police) with his crossbow” when they walked through the door, police facts state.

The victim later drove to her mother’s home and reported what had happened to police.

On October 25, police found Anderson’s car parked near an abandoned quarry in Ilarwill.

They searched the car and seized three crossbow arrows as well as 22g of cannabis.

“(The officers also) heard a commotion coming from a nearby abandoned shed,” police facts state.

A man who lived there told them Anderson had confronted him and jumped on his car before fleeing into the surrounding bushland.

In the early hours of the following morning, police spotted Anderson when he attempted to flee from the bush and sprint across Lawrence Rd.

“(He was) chased down … (and) arrested without incident,” police facts state.

“At the time of his arrest, he was unclothed and covered in scrapes and cuts from the bush.”

In court defence lawyer Christopher Huxley said the intimidation was serious but his client’s moral culpability was reduced because he had been diagnosed with mental health problems.

The court further heard Anderson suffered from auditory hallucinations and substance abuse issues.

Magistrate Paul MacMahon convicted Anderson and sentenced him to a 12 month community correction order.
