A drunk man used a metal pipe to bash on the door of a neighbour’s caravan, called her a “whore” and demanded she leave the area while she hid inside, a court has heard.
South Grafton man Justin Mclean, 50, pleaded guilty to destroying property and intimidation when he faced Grafton Local Court on Monday.
The court heard Mclean had a history of criminal offending and had various convictions in 2017 and 2019.
His most recent brush with the law occurred in July, just four weeks after a woman moved into the site next to his at Tyndale Caravan Park.
Mclean would often drink excessively and scream obscenities, police state in court documents.
A casual friendship with the woman did not take long to sour.
Mclean was intoxicated and started to scream at the woman, yelling she was a “whore” about 9:30am on July 10, the documents state.
He yelled at the neighbour to leave the caravan park and she locked herself inside, phoning police for help.
Mclean used a “metal pipe” to “bash on metal around the victim’s site”.
He then started to bash on the caravan’s door with the pipe and his fists, damaging the paint.
The blows caused aluminium on top of the door to buckle and cave in, the court was told.
Police soon arrived and arrested Mclean, who was evicted from the caravan park.
In court, the defence said Mclean had a history of alcohol misuse, which sprung from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The court also heard Mclean had insight into his offending and had attended a detox centre.
Magistrate Rodney Brender adjourned the case for sentencing on January 15.
