A Coffs Harbour ranger smashed a guitar over his ex-partner’s head, leaving a “large amount of blood” on her body, the furniture and the floor.
Jesse Shilling has pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one charge of assault while a charge of intentionally choking was withdrawn.
During an argument on January 2 with his ex-partner, she struck him on the head and the pair fell to the ground, according to documents tendered in Coffs Harbour court.
Shilling landed on top of her and kneed her in the face, leaving her with a bloodied lip.
Then in the very early hours of March 2, Shilling cornered the same victim and in a move she told police was self-defence, she swung a guitar at the 34-year-old and hit him.
He then grabbed it from her and swung it leaving the victim with cuts on her arms, head and face.
According to court documents, she phoned for help but he abused her for calling the police and repeatedly kicked her in the legs.
When officers arrived they found the victim propped up against a parked car with a “large amount of blood on her arms and legs and an obvious head injury”.
He told police: “She hit me with a guitar so I retaliated.”
At the scene police observed blood on the floor and furniture and the guitar was “totally smashed”.
For the two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and one charge of assault he was convicted and sentenced to an 18-month community correction order.
Shilling was also sentenced in Coffs Harbour court for another set of offences relating an altercation with a neighbour on February 11.
In relation to this he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, destroying or damaging property valued less than $2000 and entering a building with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
For these offences he was convicted and sentenced to an 18-month community correction order.
