Homicide police have found Queensland grandmother Wendy Hansen’s 4WD in a carpark near a Brisbane train station almost 400km from where her body was unearthed in northern NSW.
NSW Police have not yet confirmed if detectives are investigating whether the 63-year-old woman travelled by train from Geebung Railway Station to Coffs Harbour Railway Station.
Dunecare workers found Ms Hansen’s remains half buried in bush near Jordan Esplanade at Coffs Harbour on June 18 and police were called.
Ms Hansen was a small-business owner in Monto, a Queensland town west of Bundaberg.
She was seen withdrawing cash from an ATM on Newton Street, Monto, about 170km west of Bundaberg, on February 29.
She did not return home and could not be contacted. Queensland Police were notified and launched inquiries.
Police have obtained CCTV of Ms Hansen driving south on the Bruce Highway near Wild Horse Mountain on the Sunshine Coast about 2.30pm on February 29.
She was behind the wheel of her silver 2007 two-door Mitsubishi Pajero with Queensland registration 645 TCZ.
NSW Police State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Osbox to investigate Ms Hansen’s suspicious death.
In August, police appealed for more information. On Wednesday, it was revealed strike force detectives had located Ms Hansen’s car near the train station in the Brisbane suburb of Geebung on Saturday.
The car was seized for forensic examination, however, personal items including Ms Hansen’s mobile phone were not found, according to police.
Earlier, Ms Hansen’s son Donald Hagan took to social media to ask the public for help to find his mother’s car.
“With heavy hearts we thank everyone for their efforts in searching for mum. Unfortunately this is not the result we hoped for,” Mr Hagan wrote on Facebook.
“The NSW Police are still looking for mum’s car so if you have any info please pass it on to the relevant authorities.”
Investigations continue and detectives have urged anyone with information to come forward.
Detectives have specifically appealed for dashcam footage or information about Ms Hansen or her vehicle’s movements between February-June 2024.
