More details have emerged after a 26-year-old man suffered serious injuries when a “large boulder rolled over him” at Dangar Falls in Dorrigo.
NSW Ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service were called to the popular swimming spot about 9.30am on Saturday.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the “helicopter’s critical medical care team assessed and treated a man after a large boulder rolled over him”, while NSW Police was told “a large boulder had rolled down an embankment”.
The man, who was working in the area at the time, suffered a range of injuries to his limbs, pelvis and head.
He was transported up an embankment with the help of the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).
The man was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital and was a serious but stable condition on Monday.
SafeWork NSW inspectors have launched inquiries into the incident at the 30m high hinterland waterfall, which is popular among locals and visitors, but has a history of tragic accidents.
In January, a 34-year-old man died after he jumped and failed to resurface, while a 45-year-old man also drowned in August last year.
A decade ago, a 19-year-old German woman died when she jumped from the falls while holidaying in Australia.
