A prominent property power couple wants to bulldoze a ranch-style home overlooking the Byron hinterlands in Newrybar to build a multimillion dollar concrete quadrangle home.
The planned digs, the subject of a development application with Ballina Shire Council, would use a “cloister” design around an inner garden.
The unusual open plan home has been pitched as a “place of seclusion” and is tipped to cost about $2.78 million.
The 10,000 square metre site was sold in 2021 for $6.3m.
Built over two-storeys, the three bedroom home would include a sauna spa and meditation room.
There is an existing studio developers propose changing into a two bedroom dual occupancy, with a covered walkway connecting the two buildings.
The proponents, Byron Bay-based Taliah Lowry and her husband Sein, own and operate Byron Abodes, a luxury Northern Rivers holiday accommodation provider.
The planned Newrybar home would be the latest in a property portfolio.
The couple lease out boutique apartments and villas to wealthy holiday makers.
They own luxury Yamba accommodation Milaco, with stays up for grabs for more than $2000 per night, while Byron villas range from $800 to $1250 per night.
