Harvey Norman has proposed a $24 million redevelopment of its Ballina Homemaker Centre.
The massive retailer wants to build a 7690 square metre shopfront on vacant land south of its existing store on Boeing Ave.
The project would see a Harvey Norman warehouse built for bigger and bulkier goods along with space for a cafe and four additional bulky goods tenancies – with a new kids playground across from the cafe.
The proposal comprises loading docks and parking for 198 cars, including four disabled spaces and seven EV charging stations.
It’s unclear what businesses would move in at this stage, although there is speculation one of the tenancies could be picked up by Officeworks.
The land is flood prone sitting in the Southern Cross Industrial Estate about 1.8km from Ballina Byron Airport.
Ballina’s central business district is about three kilometres to the south.
The vacant land was prepared in 2019 and 2020 by Harvey Norman after being purchased from Ballina Shire Council, and a second vacant lot across the road from the complex is also being lined up for future development.
