Kate Miller-Heidke – you legend.

The Aussie pop singer has given us a taste of the witty banter she might show as a new coach on The Voice Australia.

A week after Confidential first suggested a shake-up to the reality singing show panel, The Voice Australia announced Miller-Heidke to join the show alongside fellow newbies Adam Lambert and LeAnn Rimes.

They replace Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Jason Derulo in the iconic big red coaching chairs.

Guy Sebastian is the only returning coach.

Channel 7 made the announcement officially on Sunrise, and social media with a Brady Bunch-style grid montage of the four coaches.

One Instagram user noted: “I don’t know half these people”.

Clearly having some fun, Miller-Heidke surprisingly responded: “me either!”.

The response was met with applause and laughter.

In another comment, ‘kanellarizzo’ asked, ‘who are the 2 blondes?” in reference to Miller-Heidke and Rimes.

Again, Miller-Heidke responded: “The Veronicas”.

The Veronicas, for the record, are the chart topping twins of Untouched and Hook Me Up fame. Both are brunettes.

Production on the new season is scheduled to begin this month.

The Voice is one of Seven’s juggernaut shows each year.

Lambert is a huge star internationally, having been runner-up in American Idol back in 2009 and gone on to tour the world with Queen’s Roger Taylor and Brian May.

Rimes meanwhile is best known for her international hits Can’t Fight The Moonlight, from 2000 film Coyote Ugly, Blue and How Do I Live.

Respected, classically-trained Aussie pop singer-songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke represented Australia at the 2019 Eurovision in Tel Aviv, Israel, and has performed at the prestigious Coachella music festival.

She once famously released a song titled Australian Idol, in which she questioned reality TV singing shows. Australian Idol also screens on Seven.

“The art and craft of singing has been at the centre of my life and I feel like I have learned some things that might be of help to young or inexperienced performers,” Miller-Heidke said. “I’ll be looking for people with the soul of an artist; people with something to say; who make you lean in and want to know more about them. And I’m really looking forward to getting to know the other coaches. Bring it on!”

It is the latest incarnation of coaches for the show that first aired here in 2012.

Others to have sat in the red chairs over the years include Keith Urban, Boy George, Joe Jonas, Kelly Rowland, Benji Madden, Ronan Keating, will.i.am, Seal, Ricky Martin, Kylie Minogue and Jessie J.
