Seven Network stars to stay away from the TV Week Logies because the awards ‘lack relevance in 2018’

WHILE many famous faces will be missing from Channel 7 at this year’s TV Week Logie Awards as the network scales back its attendance, word is the Nine Network will have several tables that will include B-grade stars and competition is heating up.

MANY famous faces will be missing from this year’s TV Week Logie Awards with Channel 7 seriously scaling back its attendance.

Confidential can reveal Sunrise hosts Samantha Armytage and David Koch, Morning Show hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur, the team behind The Daily Edition and many of the station’s news stars will not attend the event.

A spokeswoman confirmed that Channel 7 would not send its heavyweight talent.

“The change of location, to the Gold Coast from Melbourne, has made life difficult,” the spokeswoman said.

She added that only nominees and a very select few others will attend.

Big stars like Sunrise host Samantha Armytage, House Rules judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Better Homes and Gardens host Johanna Griggs could be no-shows at the TV Week Logies.

An insider at the network claimed Seven bosses felt the Logies had become less relevant in recent years and the money used to fly and accommodate talent on the Gold Coast could be better spent elsewhere. “The network has contempt for a Nine-biased event being run from a magazine no one reads and (feels) the awards themselves lack relevance in 2018,” the insider said.

While Sunrise will have a small presence at the ceremony with Edwina Bartholemew and Sam Mac attending and reporting back to the show the next day, Nine will fly the full Today team north for the event.

The cost of broadcasting remotely is said to be another reason Seven will not film the breakfast show from the Gold Coast the day after the Logies.

Meanwhile, Confidential understands there is serious competition at Channel 9 over who will get to attend.

60 Minutes reporter and Today Weekend hosts Alison Langdon and Karl Stefanovic and Today Show news reader Sylvia Jeffreys will likely be in attendance.

An insider said Nine News Now host Amber Sherlock, who was made famous by the white jacket incident, has voiced her disappointment over not going to the Logies.

“Amber has made it known that she is not happy about missing out on going to the Logies,” the insider said.
