THERE’S not a Karl or Carrie in sight in this year’s Gold Logie nominations list and it’s about bloody time.

Overpaid breakfast TV and The Project hosts have traditionally been the gold standard for the top award in the industry, but finally the Amandas and Andrews of the TV world are getting a gong.

This year’s Gold Logie list is remarkable for a variety of reasons — a Project host doesn’t feature for the first time since 2011 and a Foxtel personality has been recognised for the first time in the company’s 22-year history.

FULL LIST OF LOGIES NOMINATIONS

Andrew Winter, Tracy Grimshaw and Amanda Keller’s nominations are a nod to the fact that the viewers, the voters and the TV Week Logies panel are finally listening.

Andrew Winter’s Selling Houses Australia, now in it’s 11th year on air, has consistently been the highest rating pay-TV series outside of sport.

Nine’s Tracy Grimshaw has been a stalwart of the industry for 37 years without a look in.

While Amanda Keller is without doubt one of the most down-to-earth and popular television and radio presenters in the country.

They all belong on the list.

While the Gold Logie list has surprisingly improved, on the opposite end of the spectrum the nominations for the prestigious Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding Newcomer leave a lot to be desired.

Former Bachelor star Matthew ‘Matty J’ Johnson has been nominated for doing little more than warming the seat of The Living Room presenter Chris Brown for just two episodes, acting only as a fill-in travel presenter while Brown was in South Africa.

Don’t give up your marketing career Matty.

While Sophia Forrest appeared in just 10 episodes of Love Child and most Aussies would fail to recognise Dilruk Jayasinha’s name after Ten’s Cram! debuted to abysmal ratings and was savaged by viewers.

While 2018’s nominations have brought some welcome perspective and change, not all the categories are as good as gold.
