Brooke Blurton has her share of sleepless nights in the lead up to this week.

With her debut book, a memoir titled Big Love, out now, the reality TV favourite has held nothing back, detailing her difficult childhood, including surviving neglect, abuse and homelessness.

“It is scary and pretty vulnerable and the things that I am sharing are even more vulnerable,” Blurton told Confidential.

“I am a ball of nerves at the moment, I haven’t been able to sleep properly. I feel like this is the same energy as going into The Bachelorette, the unknown of what people will think of it, will they love it or hate it, and I am such a self critical person. I am really hard on myself so those are the thoughts and feelings that I am feeling and I am allowing myself to feel that because it is so normal.”

Blurton’s book is released through HarperCollins Australia and is part of a broader deal where she will next collaborate with Wakka Wakka writer Melanie Saward on a fiction series for tweens and young teens.

The former Bachelor, Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise star is one of eight children whose mother committed suicide when she was 11, and she lost a sister last year.

“I feel like I just lay it all out bare, and I refuse to allow those experiences and my past to define me,” she explained.

Brooke Blurton was 2021’s Bachelorette, and the show’s first ever bisexual star.

“That is the whole point of the book, it is about reclamation. This is me being able to tell my story and basically slap people in the face and say, ‘cop this, I am taking it back’. If you want the truth of my story, here it is in the book.”

A proud Noongar-Yamatji woman from Western Australia, Blurton was the first ever bisexual Bachelorette.

She will next be seen on new reality format, The Challenge Australia that will premiere later this year on 10 and will see her compete alongside a host of other familiar faces from the likes of Survivor and Ninja Warrior.

Having recently been linked romantically to radio producer Sam McGinn, she is single and lamented the lack of romantic prospects on The Challenge. Others on The Challenge include Cyrell Paule, Marley Biyendolo, Megan Marx and Konrad Bien-Stephens.

“I bloody wish there was some potential talent there but there was nothing,” she laughed.

“I wanted to try something different other than love reality shows. And because I’ve always had such a competitive nature, The Challenge reached out and I am a bit of an adrenaline junky so I thought, why not?”

Blurton shot to fame in The Bachelorette in 2021 where she chose eventual series winner Darvid Garayeli.

The couple split shortly after the series finale with Blurton issuing a statement saying she felt the pair had “lost themselves” once the show ended, and that she had been thinking about breaking up with the Queenslander “for a bit”.

“I had been unhappy for a bit and it wasn’t just solely because of the relationship … I have a lot of respect for Darvid and what he gave up for me to be IN the relationship but it seems that we both lost ourselves along the way,” Blurton wrote at the time.

Blurton wrote the “pressure” of having their relationship in the spotlight and the death of her sister Ky soon after filming ended was too much for the new couple.
