Former Bachelorette Brooke Blurton has revealed she initiated her split with winner Darvid Garayeli in a lengthy statement on social media.
WA youth worker Blurton — who parted ways with landscaper Garayeli just over a month after the show‘s finale aired in November, and previously slammed him online for sharing their break-up news without asking her — revealed it was her choice to end the relationship.
The 27 year-old said in a statement on Instagram that she felt the pair had “lost themselves” once the show ended, and that she had been thinking about breaking up with the Queenslander “for a bit”.
“I’ll be the first to say it was my choice to end the relationship and I had been thinking about it for a bit towards the end,” Blurton wrote on Thursday night.
“I had been unhappy for a bit and it wasn’t just solely because of the relationship … I have a lot of respect for Darvid and what he gave up for me to be IN the relationship but it seems that we both lost ourselves along the way.”
She added: “I love Darvid and he has a good heart but unfortunately we just ended up being two different people who wanted different things … no infidelity, no hate, just a pressure cooker.”
Blurton wrote the “pressure” of having their relationship in the spotlight and the death of her sister Ky soon after filming ended was too much for the new couple.
“We had a very real love in a very unreal situation but we equally had ALOT of pressure on us too. Which I felt I carried everyday,” Blurton wrote.
“At the start of the show, I was the best version of myself and when the show ended and my sister died. I became my worst and saddest.”
“I definitely put my heart and soul into the show and to represent myself, my family and the minority groups that I represent, solely with the upmost (sic) integrity, respect and love. But the person who I forgot to love the most among that, was myself.”
It comes as Garayeli, who had recently moved in with Blurton in Melbourne and had planned to sell his Queensland home, shared the break-up news on Instagram last week.
“Unfortunately Brooke and I have parted ways. While we genuinely thought we were each others (sic) person, things change and that’s okay,“ he posted.
At the time, Blurton responded, writing his announcement was “not how and what I expected” — but set the record straight on Friday, saying while the move “kinda shocked me”, she was now OK with it.
“In my ideal world I would have preferred to have a mutual agreement or had a say in when/how we express that to the public … but Darvid had every right to make that decision, his platform, he can choose that for himself,” she wrote.
Finishing her statement, she added she hoped the pair could become “the best versions of ourselves this year”.
“We‘re as amicable as you can be during a healing process, I still love him dearly and have no regrets choosing him … I wish him all the very best,” Blurton wrote, adding she wished the WA Premier Mark McGowan would “let me in” so she could begin “a massive healing process”.
It comes amid speculation Blurton and fellow Bachelor alumni Abbie Chatfield have healed their rift, with the pair now following each other again after a public falling out.
