Indigenous reality starlet Brooke Blurton will have both male and female hopefuls vying for her attention, marking the first time globally any series of The Bachelor or Bachelorette has had a mixed gender cast.

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Blurton said.

“If it makes people feel uncomfortable in any way, I really challenge them to think about why it does.

“Times are more progressive and sexuality and gender expression are just so fluid these days.

“I am not too sure if Australia is ready for it. I hope they are. I certainly am.”

The 26-year-old follows in the footsteps of previous Bachelorette stars including Sophie Monk, Georgia Love, Sam Frost, Angie Kent and Ali Oetjen.

She would be familiar to viewers from her 2018 stint on Nick “Honey Badger” Cummins’s season of The Bachelor, when she famously quit the show despite being a favourite.

She appeared on spin-off reality series, Bachelor In Paradise, and has been previously romantically linked to singer G-Flip and AFL player Jed Bews.

Casting for the season is now under way, with the series to air later this year.

“I am terrified but I am equally incredibly excited. I am just really looking forward to good people applying,” she said.

“My perfect person in my mind is someone that loves me for me and what I have to offer.

“They will definitely share the same values and morals and integrity. I am looking for that person that ticks a lot of the boxes that I’ve been missing. I am not in a huge rush to do the typical marriage and children thing, I just really want to fall in love with someone that is on that trajectory with me.”

Physically, Blurton is drawn to fit and healthy people.

“I am particular I would say,” said Blurton, a proud Noongar-Yamatji woman. “Both male and female, I really do like that athletic build and body.”

“I like someone who takes care of themselves and is self confident and owns that. I am not too worried about physical though, I think I look beyond that in most people but you do have to be sexually attracted to them and that is key to this experience.”

Blurton was matter-of-fact when asked about the potential of two of her prospective partners falling in love with each other during filming.

“I can’t control that situation,” she said. “I would be really supportive if that is what they want but I would also be a bit disheartened if I didn’t get the chance to develop that relationship with them as well.

“It is what it is, you have to roll with it. This is all such a new thing, if something good comes out of it, then that is it.”
