“We like showing our crew around too, we are here with a lot of our friends,” the band’s Ashton Irwin told Confidential on the red carpet at The Star.
“We usually hang around Bondi, we love it here, it is so beautiful.”
The group is up for a number of ARIA Awards, including Group of the Year at Australian music’s biggest night of the year.
Despite countless accolades overseas, being recognised on home soil is all important to the boys.
“We have worked very hard for a long time for Australia to like what we do,” Irwin said.
“It always comes back to the roots and when the genesis of where we began is making waves, it is big news to us and we always try to push for more success in Australia and where we came from.”
5 Seconds of Summer opened the awards with a performance of their global mega hit, Youngblood.
“I am a little nervous actually, there’s a lot of great artists here tonight,” Calum Hood said.
